Libertas

The first time we went to New York we didn’t even see the Statue of Liberty. Not only were there far more things to do there than time to do them we also wanted to avoid spending too much “in between” time and unreasonable amounts of queuing. This time our trip on the Staten Island ferry gave us a beautiful view of the statue.

Behemoth

Brian Scadden and camera "Behemoth"Photo: Phil Reid (Dom Post)

Last week my very talented boss completed construction on what may be the largest camera ever built in New Zealand. Nicknamed “Behemoth”, it’s for Whanganui Photographer Ben Cauchi. Ben works in wet plate photography, creating antiquated images with a mysterious otherworldly feel. Visit Brian’s site for some photos of the build and to see his own wet plate photography. Check out The Dom Post for an article about the camera.

Little Russia (New York, NY)

By the time we got to New York, I was feeling pretty overwhelmed by the number of new places and pre-planning was down to a minimum. I’d almost completely forgotten about Brighton Beach. Luckily, Kate didn’t forget so we ended up walking the boardwalk from Coney Island to Brighton Beach. Though I was aware the place had a very strong Russian influence, I wasn’t quite prepared for how different the place would feel from everywhere else I’d been in the city.
