Highline Park (New York, NY)

The High Line is a former freight train line transformed into a beautiful park in New York City. Section 1 of the park runs 9 city blocks along the west side of Manhattan. Among other things it features gardens, a stage and loungers for sun bathing. From up there you can see down the streets, over the water and we spied Artichoke Pizza which we hunted out when we returned to the streets. I hope that The High Line will one day be as iconic as Central Park.

The American Visionary Art Museum (Baltimore, MD)

The American Visionary Art Museum hosts art by self-taught, folk and visionary artists. Definitely worth the visit. They may also have the best gift store in the world.

Boiled Peanuts

These are definitely my new favourite snack. I learned about them from Bourdain’s trip to Charleston, SC and managed to pick some up at a gas station in Georgia and the Asheville Farmers Market in North Carolina. I think I like them more than roasted peanuts, they’re still salted, but with more of a bean or chickpea flavour than the peanut flavour we’re used to. I’m going to see if I can start boiling my own back home. The only downside is that they’re a little bit messier than regular dry nuts.
