Kate already ventured to Nara with Kim before I arrived in Japan, but was happy to return. This time we showed up on the day of a parade, so the town was far busier than Kate’s last visit. We caught a glimpse of the parade, but spent most of our time looking at old structures and admiring the tame deer (once considered divine, now merely treasured) that roam the park. It was the first time I had seen such huge historic Japanese structures, which were breathtaking in person. The deer were pretty cool too, when they weren’t chomping at your knees.
